Him and Her. By : Unknown

She could’ve been compared to a summer’s day,
He to a chilly night.
They shouldn’t have even met anyway,
But for some reason Fate had deemed it right.
As eyes met a spark was created,
The beginning of a partnership so twisted.
In that moment the life they once knew faded,
And they didn’t know that they were going to miss it.

He was a boy destined to be alone,
One neither seen nor heard.
Day after day he stuck it out on his own,
Ignoring all the pain and hurt.

She was a girl who had everything,
One who almost seemed to be surrounded by light.
She could warm hearts and make the birds sing,
Everyone saw her as the being of no wrong and all right.

But all he wanted was someone to love him,
And all she wanted was liberation.
In his solitude he longed for someone to hold him,
While she felt trapped by her parent’s expectations.
They met opposite sides of a great big river,
So-called ‘love at first sight’ full in bloom.
He in all his clothing waded over to her,
In each other they let themselves be consumed.

His family didn’t approve of that girl,
So high, so regal, so fair.
They advised him not to get serious with her,
But by then he’d stopped listening to them.

She was met with furious words,
From both family and friends.
But the only thing she truly heard,
Was that she was forbidden from seeing him again.

Secret trysts held in the night,
Only sparked the feelings they had.
Soon they even began meeting up in daylight,
Just not telling their mums and dads.
Lust overpowered their entire beings,
Vows they could never fulfil came from parted lips.
In truth perhaps love is not what they were feeling,
Both just craved what the other could give.

She gave him security,
He gave her freedom.
A convenience to both parties,
Things their parents just couldn’t hand to them.

You see both him and her were actually quite similar,
Merely leeches that focussed on their own pleasure.
It was only shallow things he could give her,
And only shallow things she could give back in return.

But a reliable friend went back to the families,
And told them of what was happening.
Both sets of parents came to a temporary peace,
In order to save their children from calamity.
Torn apart from each other with bloodcurdling screams,
The last thing they said to each other was “I love you!”
In that moment shattered all their dreams,
And their parents wondered what things had come to.

Alarms rang the next morning,
When both were not found in bed.
The coming weeks would be full of mourning,
Because alas, they were already dead.

In the depths of the river where they first met,
Two bodies lay submerged.
Did they truly love each other in the end?
No-one knows but him and her.
